Your Trip Preview
Two days around Yogyakarta, built on a single dawn at Borobudur and a late afternoon among the spires of Prambanan. Expect volcanoes in silhouette, carved stone galleries and a climb in woven temple sandals.
Trip Experience Guide
A short temple journey in central Java, paced around the light rather than the clock. Early starts, long lunches and afternoons back in the shade.
Day 1
Prambanan: Arrival & the Temple Spires
Land in Yogyakarta and drive east to Prambanan, the ninth-century Hindu compound whose central shrine to Shiva rises 47 metres. Walk the courtyards late in the day, when the grey volcanic stone warms to gold and the tour groups have gone.
Day 2
Borobudur: Sunrise, the Terraces & Return
Leave before four for Setumbu Hill, where Borobudur surfaces from the valley mist with Merapi and Merbabu behind. From 8.30 climb the monument itself with a local guide, in the upanat sandals issued with each ticket. Then on to the airport.
The timings follow the monuments’ opening hours and the heat, and we move them to suit you. With a third day, the Kraton and the batik workshops of Yogyakarta are about an hour from Borobudur.
