Your Trip Preview
Two days in Xi’an, the old capital at the eastern end of the Silk Road. The terracotta warriors at opening time, a bicycle on top of the Ming city wall, and noodles pulled to order in the Muslim Quarter.
Trip Experience Guide
A short history trip with one early start and one easy day in the city. The warriors take a morning; the wall, the mosque and the food streets take the rest.
Day 1
Lintong: The Terracotta Army
Drive an hour east to the museum at Lintong, with tickets booked ahead on your passport, and reach Pit 1 as the doors open at half past eight. Row after row of clay infantry stand in formation, no two faces quite alike.
Day 2
The City Wall: Bicycles, Noodles & Return
Cycle the full circuit of the city wall, nearly fourteen kilometres of flagstones above the rooftops. Lunch is in the Muslim Quarter on biangbiang noodles and cumin lamb, with a quiet hour at the Great Mosque before your departure.
We time the museum around the crowds and your arrival, whether by air or fast train. With a third day, Mount Hua’s cliff paths are two hours east by car.
