Three days in Jaipur, with the forts on the ridge in the mornings and the walled city after. Amber’s mirrored halls, the stone instruments of Jantar Mantar and sunset from Nahargarh over the whole city.
Trip Experience Guide
A city stay with short drives and plenty of walking, arranged so the big sights come early. Afternoons slow down in the bazaars, and evenings are spent up high.
Day 1
Jaipur: Arrival & Hawa Mahal
Arrive at Jaipur International Airport and head into the walled city. Hawa Mahal is best seen from the terraces opposite, its 953 small windows stacked in pink sandstone, then walk Johari Bazaar as the jewellers switch on their lamps.
Day 2
Amber Fort: Mirror Hall & Nahargarh Sunset
Reach Amber at opening, 11 km north, and climb through its courtyards to the Sheesh Mahal, where one flame catches thousands of mirror pieces. Stop at the criss-cross steps of Panna Meena ka Kund, then drive up to Nahargarh for sunset over Jaipur.
Day 3
City Palace & Jantar Mantar: Old Jaipur & Return
Spend the morning at the City Palace, still home to the royal family, and next door at Jantar Mantar, where the 27-metre Samrat Yantra tells local time to within two seconds. A pyaaz kachori in the bazaar, then the airport for your flight.
The days can lean toward textiles, food or architecture, depending on what you enjoy most. With a fourth day, the deep stepwell of Chand Baori at Abhaneri is under two hours east on the Agra road.
