Trip Experience Guide

An outdoor trip, based in the city but spent on trails, beaches and islands. Walking starts early, before the heat, and afternoons end with a swim or a seafood lunch.

Day 1

The Dragon’s Back: Ridge Walk & Shek O

Take a short bus from Shau Kei Wan to the trailhead and follow the grassy ridge of the Dragon’s Back above the South China Sea. Descend to Big Wave Bay for a swim, then eat by the beach at Shek O.

Day 2

Sai Kung: The Geopark & the East Dam

Drive out past Sai Kung town to High Island Reservoir’s East Dam, where grey hexagonal columns stand in the sea. Later, a boat among the islands returns you to the harbourfront for fresh seafood from the fishing boats.

Day 3

Lantau: Ngong Ping, Tai O & Return

Ride the Ngong Ping 360 cable car for twenty-five minutes over the hills, then climb 268 steps to the bronze Big Buddha. A bus down to Tai O’s stilt houses and salted fish, and then the airport, about forty minutes by road.

Walks are matched to your fitness and the forecast, with shorter routes on hotter days. Add a day and the car-free island of Lamma is thirty minutes from Central by ferry.
