Bangkok and Pattaya
Four nights split between a city of river temples and a coast an hour and a half south, with the tours, the tickets and the transfers already arranged.
Nights one and two
Bangkok
The temple run is the reason most people come. Wat Arun stands on the Thonburi bank with its porcelain-covered spire, Wat Pho holds the reclining Buddha and the oldest massage school in the country, and the Grand Palace complex sits behind its white walls a short walk north. You travel between them by private car with a driver who waits, which in Bangkok traffic is the difference between seeing three temples and seeing one.
Day three
Safari World, then the coast
Safari World and Marine Park takes the morning and most of the afternoon, with lunch included and a drive-through section that keeps children quiet for an hour. Afterwards the road runs south east to Pattaya, about two hours with traffic.
Nights three and four
Pattaya and Coral Island
Coral Island is twenty minutes offshore by speedboat. The water is clear enough to see the bottom from the boat, lunch is on the beach, and the afternoon is yours. Back on the mainland the beach road runs the length of the bay and the seafood is best at the Naklua end, away from the noise.
Four nights is enough for Thailand if somebody else is holding the tickets and the car is already waiting.
Day by day
Met at Suvarnabhumi and driven to the hotel. The evening is free, which usually means a walk to the nearest night market.
Wat Arun, Wat Pho and the Grand Palace quarter with tickets and a private car. Shoulders and knees covered at every one of them.
A full morning at Safari World and Marine Park with lunch, then the drive south to Pattaya and a hotel by the bay.
Out to Koh Larn by speedboat with lunch on the sand. Swimming, a banana boat if you want one, and back by late afternoon.
A slow morning, then the transfer back to the airport. The drive from Pattaya takes around two hours.
