Morocco changes quickly once you leave the medina walls. Within a few hours of Marrakech the road climbs into the High Atlas, drops to the earthen kasbahs of the south, or runs west to the Atlantic at Essaouira. We keep the city days slow, with a local guide for the souks and time for a hammam, and hand the long drives to a driver who knows where to stop for bread and tagine. Spring and autumn suit most travellers; winter brings snow to the high passes.
